Our History

78 Years of Ministry

The Stony Point Tabernacle was founded by Rev. R.H. Hager (3/9/1909-7/1/1991). The Church was erected in the spring of 1945, and the first service was held on July 1, 1945. Sunday school was organized in July of 1945 with 42 persons in attendance. The church building has since then under gone many changes; there was a large expansion to the church in 1970 and a total remodel in 2007. Rev. R.H. Hager was Pastor from 1945 until 1991. Rev. Chuck Hager was Pastor from 1992 until 2005. On September 11th, 2005, Tabernacle called Rev. Wesley Hammer to be their Pastor. He continues to serve today. In 2009, Tabernacle voted in their first deacons: Randy Barnes, Clyde Beach, Conley James, Connie Mack Chapman, and Andy Lackey. On August 26th, 2009, Rev. James Smith became the first Youth Pastor at Tabernacle. In March of 2010, Stony Point Tabernacle voted to change their name to Tabernacle Baptist Church. There have been several preachers that have been sent out of the church and have pastored in Alexander County. Rev. Hinkle Little was one of these men. The church has seen the Lord bless and move in many ways over the years, with a countless number of people being saved and baptized. We look forward to what the Lord has in store for us in the coming years, including our current Building project.
